Monan Ma

Ph.D. candidate in Mechanical

Engineering at Boston University

I am a final-year Ph.D. candidate in the Nanometer Scale Engineering Lab at BU. My doctoral projects involve: (i) improving the sensing resolution of nanoelectromechanical devices, (ii) developing multiphysics finite element models, and (iii) physics-informed machine learning for nonlinear systems. A high-level overview of my work and background can be found in this news article.

I was born and raised in Moscow, Russia, and went to college in the United States. I completed my B.E. and M.S. degrees magna cum laude at Stony Brook University in New York. I worked as a researcher at the Brookhaven Technology Group on the experimental and numerical studies of high-temperature superconductors and magnets, with applications in nuclear fusion and quantum communications.

I am actively searching for postdoctoral research positions and fellowships starting around or after January 2026.

I am also interested in industry research positions relevant to my expertise. A link to my CV can be found below.
